I’m Not Lesbian

Being lesbian implies you are a woman. I am not a woman, at least not the last time I checked.

(For those not in the know, this is a response to Chris and Shaine‘s blogs.)

Anime

I’m not one of those anime freaks. Maybe if I say it enough times it’ll be true. Until then, though, I’ll have to own up too the truth… I watch anime, and I enjoy it. In fact, I’ve spent a lot of this weekend downloading anime and watching it, in between games of Diablo II.

Don’t mistake me for one of those crazy kids who thinks that just because the show has people with big eyes it’s brilliant. Big eyes aren’t a substitute for plot. I don’t like every anime there is simply because it’s from Japan and thus is somehow that much more cool. There are plenty of shows I could care less about, but there are also plenty of good ones.

The thing I like about anime is that the Japanese respect the ability of cartoons to tell stories to the teens and adults. Sure, there are adult cartoons here in America, but most of them are based around the idea of comedy. You don’t see cool things like Gundam Wing and such coming out of American cartoons, because cartoons are apparently for children.

I’m not saying that the shows are realistic or anything like that. They’re usually something that would have complements on the sci-fi channel. But that’s okay, because realistic stuff can be done with actors. Things like gigantic robotic armor can’t so much. I submit Power Rangers as proof of that fact.

I’m not trying to tell you that every Japanese show is good. I’m just telling you that not all of them are bad, which is not any more than you can say about all of the American shows. Give it a try sometime. Expand your horizons and all that, but don’t judge with any single thing you watch. Now, I’m going to get back to downloading… I mean… finding more episodes of Ghost In The Shell.
